Chittorgarh is at a distance of 115 km from Udaipur. It was given to Bappa Rawal, the legendary founder of the Sisodia dynasty, as part of the dowry of the last Solanki princess in the middle of the 8th century AD. Chittorgarh Fort is a massive structure with several gateways situated at an altitude of 180 m. Maurya rulers extended the fort in the 7th centrury AD over a total area of 700 acres. The Vijay Stambha or the Victory Tower is a 37 m high structure with 9 storeys. The Kirti Stambha, 22 m high tower id dedicated to Adinath, the first Jain Tirthankara. Decorated with deities of Jain pantheon, the tower was built by a wealthy Jain merchant.

There is a general belief among the people of Chittorgarh that the palace has underground cellars where Rani Padmini and other women committed Jauhar.
